I have just downloaded the WordPress IPhone app to see if I can update the Nile Cruise Blog from Egypt when we travel their on Monday the 28th of March. If this does work then Barbara and I can post our impressions of our time on the Nile throughout the week. So I’ve created this short test post and now I’m going to post it. So if your reading this then it works.
Nile Cruise Guide “Widget”…
I came across this strange new “bar code” icon that you can use on websites to direct people to various pages or to forms or newsletter signups. I hadnt’ seen anything like it before but it allows people with a “smartphone” to simply scan the icon and it will take them directly to the page that you want the person to reach. Such as a Twitter Signup page, a Facebook signup page, or, as I mentioned earlier a Newsletter Signup page.
Its’ called a “QR” or “Quick Response Code” and you can obtain them for free from http://qrcode.kaywa.com/
You need a Free iPhone App (or similar depending on your smartphone) like “QR Reader for iPhone” and if you were to scan the “bar code” image below with your “smartphone” it would take you to the “Nile Cruise Guide” page.
Here’s a short video showing you how to “scan” the code:

Technology eh? Where would we be without it.
What digital video camera would you recommend?
I received a question from a client the other day who is due to take a Nile cruise shortly asking about any recommendations I might have for the best small high definition digital video camera to take with them.
If you have seen any of our Nile Cruise videos you will have seen the results I obtain from my Flip HD Digital Video Camera which I’m really pleased with. I’ve had it for about 18 months now and it’s been a great tool for me. Small as my iPhone and really easy to use. However there are some excellent alternatives now available made by Kodak and also the iPhone 4 has a really good HD video camera built in to it.Â
The only problem with the iPhone is that there is no way to fix it to a tripod to get a steady picture and so the videos arent’ as smooth as I would like. However there is a new “steadycam” hand-held setup being made available in December that acts like the type of “smoothee-cam” that you see camera men at football matches using to give that really smooth camera shot of the players from pitch-side. It’ll be about £100-150 but for real enthusiasts it will allow them to get great results from the excellent iPhone built in camera.

Nile Cruise Luggage Recommendation…
Sounds a strange title? “Nile Cruise Luggage Recommendation“.
Well the reason for this post is that Barbara has just bought me an Eagle Creek Tarmac 22 “carry-on” suitcase for my Christmas present which I’m going to use for the first time when we go away for Christmas and so I thought I’d mention this excellent product here on the blog.
I’m also due to visit Egypt on business in January so it will come in handy as I’ll be travelling around a fair bit so I can hopefully stow it in the overhead lockers.
