Read this article yesterday, in the Daily Telegraph, that was reporting on the Spa facilities on the Oberoi Zahra that I thought you might be interested in.
We’ve posted about the Oberoi Zahra a number of times here on the blog. It’s probably the most exclusive and luxurious ship cruising the Nile and definitely the most expensive at around £2500 upwards per person per week. But it’s still a great ship and worth considering if the budget stretches that far. Especially for a special occasion.
Here’s the article:
Spa Spy: Aboard a luxury Nile cruiser, the Oberoi Zahra

The spa: Spacious treatment rooms and a gym are set below a superb top-deck pool on this ultra-sleek new cruiser. Fifty passengers are accommodated in 25 luxury suites and served by a five-star restaurant and efficient crew.
Spa Spy’s symptoms: A sprained shoulder that, with Christmas revelries imminent, demands a speedier remedy.
The prescription: A deep-pressure Balinese massage (£59) to reach below superficial muscle layers; a calming, 30-minute shiro abhyangam Indian head-and-shoulder massage (£48); and a body scrub with ground coffee mixed with milk and cinnamon (£34).
The procedure: When the masseuse climbed on to the massage table, Spy’s recalcitrant shoulder realised she meant business. Her powerful but painless strokes were maintained for an hour, after which, the head massage and coffee scrub relaxed Spy’s tense neck, deemed to be cause of the shoulder problem.
The verdict: Spy is now free to dance at parties with both hands in the air.
The medical opinion: “Deep-tissue massage, by stimulating subcutaneous blood flow and helping to disperse any build-up of lactic acid, can be effective in treating muscle pain,” writes Dr Simon Goldenberg. “Hands-on manipulation can be a useful intervention for pain in the neck and shoulders.”
The feelgood factor: Trace 5,000 years of human history as you sail the Nile between Aswan and Luxor and be charmingly reacquainted with the Biblical imagery of Sunday school.
