Aswan from the Panorama Bar of the Movenpick Aswan Hotel

After our wonderful lunch and cruise on board the superb MS Misr Nile cruise ship we took the water-taxi back to our hotel, the Movenpick Aswan as we had been invited to watch the sun go down over the Nile from the Panorama Bar which is located at the top of the tower at the Movenpick.

We took the opportunity to take a stroll around the grounds of the Movenpick and walked over to the other side of the island and the hotel which overlooks Kitchener’s Island. Continue reading “Visiting Aswan – Continued”

Visiting Aswan – Day 2

Barbara at The Old Cataract Hotel Aswan November 2012

After our evening stroll and “people-watching” at the pavement cafe and a really good night’s sleep our second day in Aswan began with an excellent breakfast at the Movenpick Aswan Hotel. Once I’ve a had a good cup of real coffee I’m setup for the day. Which is just as well as we had a busy day planned.

Firstly we were lucky enough to be invited to visit the recently re-opened and world-famous “Old Cataract Hotel“. We had visited the hotel prior to its’ complete refurbishment that took over two years to complete and we were looking forward to seeing what had been done to improve this marvelous hotel that blends old-world Victorian grandeur with Egyptian charm. Visiting Luxor – Day One

Visiting Luxor – Day One

Hi again.

Following on from yesterday I’d like to tell you more about our latest visit to Egypt just over 15 days ago.

This time we flew from London Heathrow to Luxor on Egyptair’s scheduled flight and arrived at Luxor Airport about 8.00pm. After a short transfer we arrived at the hotel we would be based at for the next 2 nights, the Maritim Jolie Ville.

Sofitel Karnak Hotel Luxor - Nile Cruise holidaysThe Maritim Jolie Ville is located on Kings Island, an island situated in the Nile itself. It’s a Swiss-owned hotel and accommodation is in attractive bungalows located throughout the hotel’s extensive grounds. Our own accommodation was very spacious and quite luxurious and was about 5 minutes walk from the reception and the main restaurant.

With gardens that reach right to the edge of the Nile the hotel is uniquely placed and would provide a great base for those people seeking a really laid-back week in the sun. It has possibly the best equipped gym that I’ve ever seen in a hotel. The equipment, of which there was lots, was truly state-of-the-art and I personally could easily spend a few hours in a gym as well equipped as the Maritim’s. As well as the gym there is a superb spa and wellness area too and I know Barbara would have loved to have been able to book some of the many spa treatments that were on offer.

The gym facilities are totally free to guests but the various spa treatments would have to be paid for.

If you had taken a Nile cruise the week before, then a second week at the Maritim Jolie Ville would be a great choice of a hotel where you could totally chill out. Continue reading “Visiting Luxor – Day One”

A lot of people search Google for that phrase looking for more information about the various options that can be added to the end of a Nile Cruise.

For a lot of people a Nile Cruise is a “one-off’ travel experience that they probably will not repeat. Of course, like any destination, we do get clients who go back again and love the whole atmosphere and experience of  cruising the Nile and love to repeat the journey many times. But for most people it’s something they will do only once.

However they are usually aware that Egypt offers so much for the holiday maker and traveller and they can take the opportunity to stay a further seven days and relax at one of the many fabulous hotels in a some of the most picturesque resorts on the Red Sea.

What most people dont’ realise at first is that as Nile Cruises begin and end in Luxor that there are certain limitations with regard to which Red Sea resort they can easily reach from Luxor.

These  are the choices of resort that you can choose from for your second week: Continue reading “Cruise and Stay Egypt”
