Barbara and I spent a wonderful three days in Cairo last November and enjoyed a full day Memphis, Saqarra and The Great Pyramids excursion as well as a evening at the “Sound and Light” show at the Pyramids. Both great experiences.
People often ask us if they should pre-book these excursions or leave them until they reach Cairo and I’d like to suggest that it really doesnt’ matter that much.
When we were planning our trip we were initially going to book another excursion for the second day we were there. We were going to book a half-day trip to see the Egyptian Museum. However we only pre-booked the full day excursion and decided to choose what else we did when we reached Cairo.
As it was we had a great time on our pre-booked full-day excursion with a wonderful guide and driver but we booked our evening’s “Sound and Light Show” excursion through the hotel (Le Meridien Pyramids) on the afternoon of the show. In fact when we reached the show at the Pyramids that evening we had front seats. They couldn’t’ have been better and the place was packed.
We then decided to give the following day’s half-day excursion a miss and just relax around the hotel and the pool as we had had a pretty hectic few days.
If we had pre-booked the excursion we would have felt duty bound to take it rather than lose the money we would have already paid.
Is there any price difference booking over here rather than over there? Probably. You can see a list of our pre-bookable Cairo excursions on the main Nile Cruise 4u website. If you book locally you might sometimes get it cheaper. It depends on each individual. Some people like everything booked and sorted well in advance, (like me), and others like total flexibility. So there is no real answer.
Only that you shouldn’t worry either way as whatever happens you will be able to book excursions when you reach Cairo through the concierge of your hotel or you can mix and match as we did. You can be assured that either way you will able to be sure that the excursion operators are professional and experienced whether you pre-book with ourselves or leave it and book through the hotel.
