MS Monica
March 2010

Hello Barbara,

Back from our Nile cruise and thought I would leave you some feedback.

Firstly the ship would not take credit cards so we had to pay cash for our extra excursions (Abu Simbel) which left us short.  That was the only bad point.  Our guide, Mina, was excellent and stopped the coach at ATM's on several occasions for people so it was not a problem.

It was a fabulous holiday.

The staff on the MS Monica were so friendly and genuine and the whole holiday was brilliantly organised from start to finish.  Our visas's were sorted out so there was no queuing at the airport, etc.  The food on the ship was good and we did not have any timmy upsets and the weather of course was excellent.

I dont' know how they do it at that price.  It's unbelievable value for money and the Abu Simbel trip was on my 5oth birthday and they made a big fuss out of me on the ship that evening with a cake and a conga round the dining room!

Awesome.

MS Fleurette May 2010

Dear Barbara and Colin,

Just to let you know that Val and my holiday on the Nile on the MS Fleurette was one of the most fantastic holidays I have ever experienced.  It is 28 years since I did a holiday in Egypt and although the temples are obviously the same, everything to do with toursim is 28 years up-dated along with the poorer end's lifestyle, (ie. still poor but vastly improved).

The staff of the Fleurette are wonderful, the guides all have degrees in Egyptology and made the trip both interesting and fun.  It took very little time for the 90 passengers to change from strangers to friends, an art that Ashraf (the ship's manager) and the guides obviously excel in.

The ship is reportedly not as "flash" as it's sister ship but I think often the atmosphere is sometimes lost on larger ships.

For future enquirers - We are two middle aged female travellers and this holiday was organised to the highest safety (although I never felt otherwise anyway) with the highest standards of friendliness and sightseeing.

The food was excellent and although as I have said the ship was not the grandest - we were out so often that we did not feel that spending more was necessary.  It is advisable to take more Sterling than Egyptian pounds as trips/bar bills/visas and gratuities are better paid in Sterling and the rate of exchange is better there than in England.

I can fully recommend this holiday to anyone that wants to experience Egypt.

MS Stepanie Nile Cruise and Jolie Ville Hotel, Luxor, June 2010

I just wanted to drop a line to say how very, very pleased and impressed I was with my Nile cruise on the MS Stephanie.

The vessel, the food, the standard of accommodation and the boat was so very good and the staff went out of their way to make everyones trip extra enjoyable.  The organisation was superb and great consideration was given by all the staff to make the whole trip the best.

Both our guides on the excursions, Waheed and George, were so knowledgable and so helpful, making every excursion an adventure and a delight.

Peter Barnett gets singled out for his attention to detail and his constant involvement that everything was as it should be.  He was very efficient and friendly too, taking a personal interest in people and ensuring their holiday was the best it could be.

I then went on to a week at the Hotel Jolie Ville on Kings Island, Luxor and this too could not have been better.  Again the accommodation, the grounds, the location, the food and the staff were superb.  It was a peaceful hotel but with enough to do in the evenings so one did not get bored.  I especially liked the "sunset hour" when everyone watched the sun go down over the Nile whilst classical music played, the birds sung and in the distance one could hear people being called to prayer.  It was a delight.  I would certainly go back again.

My special thanks go to Barbara Maddocks who organised this for me and I have to say she was extremely efficient and so helpful.  I was impressed and will definitely use the company again.

Many thanks and regards,

Kathleen C.

Dear Barbara,

I just felt I must let you know what a wonderful cruise we enjoyed on the El Fostate. The staff, food and the boat itself were just as you described and we were made so welcome. Your advice regarding the "fancy dress" costumes saved us quite a few Egyptian pounds, and Trevor and I had such a great evening. Thanks for arranging such a wonderful trip. You were so helpful and patient I have recommended you to several of our friends. I will be in touch very soon to ask you to arrange our next "adventure".

Kind regards, Susan and Trevor Martin.

Hi Barbara

We have just returned from our holiday to Cairo and a Nile Cruise on the King Tut and wish to let you know that we had a wonderful time.

All arrangements made by Orbital travel were excellent with all their representatives being on time to meet us from our flights and escort us to our hotel, boat and airports.

Our guide Mohhamed was excellent and very, very informative.   The boat facilities and food were also very good and the book you sent us before we left was very very helpful indeed.

A big thank you to you and your company for an excellent holiday.

Dear Barbara,

Just a brief note to thank you for an excellent holiday.  All transfers were very smooth and efficient.  The boat, King Tut 1, was excellent with staff who could not be more friendly.

The guide, Yehi, was superb and was passionate about the sites we saw.  We went on some of the optional excursions and they gave us a great insight to the people, history and nature of Egypt.  An excellent holiday which was good value.

Thanks,

JB

Barbara,

I thought I would just write to tell you that we are all back and had a wonderful time.  The agents in Egypt were more than helpful and all went very smoothly.  We booked a private guide for 2 days through them in Cairo and that was fantastic.  I dont' think we would have seen 10% of what we did without her.

The cruise was also very good and the food was excellent.  We managed to avoid "The Mummy's Tummy" till the last night when our son went down with it and had a horrible journey home.  I think that was probably as a result of him being more "cavalier" than the rest of us over the use of hand gels, etc, rather than a result of anything he consumed.

Thanks again and we hope to deal with you again in the future.

Cruised on the King Tut 1 - May 2007

Hi there,

I just wanted to take the opportunity to let you know what an absolutely fantastic time we had on our Nile Cruise.

From the very start the service provided by Barbara on the telephone was superb and she even managed to organise our overnight train from Cairo to Luxor for us which was another weight off our back.

From the pick up at the train station to the drop-off back at the station we had a hassle-free, no-stress trip.

The King Tut 1 is wonderful with excellent cabins, wonderful food and the friendliest staff you have ever met.  Because we ate at the same tables every meal we got to know some of the other travellers well and will definitely stay in touch.

Our guide, John, made our trip.  He was so knowledgable, funny and patient!  He gave just the right amount of information and could answer all of our questions unlike some of the guides we had in Cairo, (we booked these ourselves on the Internet via another comapny).

All in all a marvellous trip that was relaxing, educational and entertaining.  Fabulously organised and defintely highly recommended in every way.

Thank you very much.

I am just writing to you to let you know how much my husband and I enjoyed our trip with you to Egypt.

Our stay on the King Tut the 1 from 17 - 24th September was the best experience either of us have ever had.  It is the most magical, mystical incredible place to go and I think we both fell in love with it.

All credit must go to you for the organization of the whole trip. Everything down to the last detail was taken care of and the people from Orbital who looked after us across there were excellent too?

Sailing down the Nile I had to keep pinching myself to tell myself I was not in a dream, nothing can compare to the beauty and tranquility of the Nile and all its picture postcard scenes, from the sunrises to the sunsets everyday saw something new and exciting.

The excursions to the temple's were humbling to say the least, the ancient Egyptians have to be the most fascinating incredibly clever race ever and their Legacy will always be a tribute to them.

I would and have strongly advised everyone I know to take this trip and in my opinion if they do to contact yourselves.

I have only one very small detail that may need to be addressed and that is that the second week in the Dana Beach in Hurghada we had no one to meet us and no contact with any rep whatsoever during our weeks stay there.

This in itself was not too much of a problem but when we tried to find out from other reps and the hotel reception staff how to find out about our pick up time it proved almost impossible.

I eventually contacted Orbital direct from the number we had and they were very helpful and said we should have had contact with someone but not to worry, within a couple of hours we had a fax telling us of or pick up.

The Dana Beach itself was lovely and we have no complaints about that either, the facilities and the food and everything was wonderful, this too I would highly recommend.  We were the only British speaking people in the hotel and though this was not a problem for us it was slightly strange especially as we had no contact with the outside world.  However this was a minor detail I guess and the trip and its memories will stay with me forever.

I thank you so much for this on behalf of my husband and myself.  We had both been a bit apprehensive about going to Egypt but now cannot recommend this intriguing country highly enough.  I don't know what we are going to do from now on as topping this is going to be extremely hard.

I am looking at a week away at Christmas time with the family and its proving difficult to even get up enough enthusiasm to go anywhere after this experience of a lifetime. However as there will be either 4 or 6 of us and mum and dad are paying then it will have to be somewhere less exciting I am afraid.

Anyway thank you so much for everything, I will not hesitate to contact you again though I don't know where our holiday plans will take us next year.

Thank you and my very best regards

Hi Barbara,

We arrived home last night from Egypt and I wanted to thank you for again finding us a wonderful holiday.  The Ra 2 didn't disappoint us.  The food, crew and decor were lovely.

Our cabin was on B deck at the bow of the boat and must have been one of the biggest with a balcony big enough to sit on (there were 2 chairs).

Our tour guide (Egyptologist) Osama was very informative and passionate about his subject.  He opened up a new world.

It was a demanding week, physically, mentally and socially but incredibly stimulating.

Our second week at the Oberoi was a complete contrast, total rest and relaxation in luxurious surroundings...couldn't fault it, just what we were looking for.  Although I wonder if it would have been cheaper to have gone half board as Hurghada itself was too far (30 minutes drive) to go for dinner every night.

We only went out of the hotel once which was enough really!  Food and drink in the hotel was quite expensive but of a high standard.

Thanks again Barbara for your help in putting together our holiday.  I will be in touch next year to arrange the next one and we still plan to go to Kenya/Mauritius in 2009.

Best Regards,

Hi Barbara,

Nile Cruise & Movenpick Hotel

I had intended sending this email IMMEDIATELY after arriving home from our Egypt holiday but the bubble was burst by Christmas preparations!

What a wonderful holiday.  So many sights, sites and sounds.

King Tut 1 - ship and crew great.  We also had a group of 30-odd English who got on really well together.  The tour guide, Hanaa (our own Nefertiti) was 1st class.

The trip across the desert was interesting but took 7 hours.  We were the last couple to be dropped off.  Having left people at 3 resorts, which were all south of Hurghada, we still had a considerable distance to travel, the guide left us at Hurghada and the 2 drivers didnt' know where the Movenpick was.  This meant that they needed to study every road junction, in complete darkness, to find the right road.  However when we did arrive the journey had certainly bheen worth it.

Your choice of the Movenpick was spot on!

We intended relaxing for the second week and did just that.  We have never been anywhere else for a week where we have'nt moved outside of the resort...heaven.

Now we need to see the pyramids...I'm sure we'll be in touch with you.

Have a super Christmas and New Year,

Regards,

Sandy Hancock

Domina Prestige Emilio and Nile Cruise with All Excursions.

Thanks for that very pleasant holiday Barbara.  I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.

All the people were very friendly and of different nationality.

I especially enjoyed the desert drive and the hot air balloon on the banks of the Nile.

Hi Barbara,

We have just returned from our cruise and stay on the Nile and I felt I had to write to you and thank you for organising such an amazing holiday for us.  The organisation was exceptional, the trips and all the optional trips were fantastic ( we did 'em all) and were well organised.

We needed the week in Luxor to relax after cramming everything in on the first week and the Nile Palace was a beautiful hotel.

I cant' thank you enough.  It was without doubt the best holiday experience of our lives.

Hi Barbara,

We have been back now for 2 weeks and I want to apologise for not contacting you before this but I have been very busy since we got home.

I just wanted to tell you what an amazing time we had and thank you for your help in the arrangements.

I am happy to say that everything went like clockwork, the flights, transfers and all the excursions were spot on.  It seemed to be everyone's aim to make our stay absolutely trouble free and ensure we had a wonderful time which we certainly did.

Our guide on the boat, Ayman, was lovely and made things come alive for us.  We managed to get to Cairo from El Gouna on the Saturday.  We booked through the hotel (Movenpick) and it was well worth making the effort.  Again our guide was very good indeed.

I have recommended your company to two people already since we have been home.

Thank you once again and we would not hesitate to book with you in the future.

Hi Barbara,

I just wanted to thank you so much for all your hard work and the trouble you went to in making our holiday in Egypt run so smoothly.  As you know, we booked very late in the day and although we werent' able to stay in the "brochure hotels", the substitutes you found for us were just as good, if not better, and suited our requirements much more.

Our boat, "Alexander The Great", was fabulous.  Small and intimate but you didnt' live in each others pockets - your description of it was just perfect.  The staff were very helpful, food fantastic, but our overall thanks must go to "Yasser", our guide on board, who was fun, knowledgeable and so enthusiastic that it was infectious.  We certainly didnt' feel "templed-out" and "Angels" has come to have a special meaning to us.

We were also very well looked after in Cairo.  "Hany", our guide there, ensured that we were well looked after and our day trip to The Pyramids, Saqqara and finally the Sound and Lights Show was very good value.

Thank you once again - it was a real pleasure "doing business" with you and will have no hesitation in recommending you to my friends.

Best wishes,

Hi Barbara,

Just a little note to say THANK YOU again for helping us have a holiday of a lifetime.  The Nile Cruise was just excellent (as you said it would be).  The service, the people, the trips were all wonderful and the trip to Cairo and then on to the Red Sea were all just fab too.  All the pickups at the airport went perfectly and we felt very well looked after.

So thank you again for helping us have such a great holiday.  We'll definitely call you again when we have saved up for the next one!

With much thanks and kind regards, Jenni

Dear Barbara,

Many thanks for your card, received on our return.

Our Nile Cruise was fantastic thanks.

The ship (the Domina Prestige) was really good with excellent food and accommodation.  The organisation was outstanding, faultless in fact and our Egyptologist was very clued up.  We also had a very nice group of people on our table which was a blessing.

Our only moan was the high price of wine (we should have got the best French or South African wine for the 150 Euros a bottle, instead of the barely drinkable Egyptian plonk).  The beer was also expensive and the cost of water a bit of a rip off, especially as we could buy five bottle on land for the price of one on board - and we needed to drink lots, plus use for cleaning teeth, etc.

Anyway our lasting impression is that it was one of our best holidays ever.

Thanks for your excellent service.

Hi Barbara,

Just wanted to say thanks for organising a wonderful holiday.

All airport transfers and check-ins went without a hitch and all the local reps in Cairo and the cruise were always there to greet us at arrival and departure.

Hurghada was a bit of a surprise as we assumed a local rep would be there on arrival, but we didnt' see him until the next day which was a bit useless.

Tips for other travellers:

"Pyramid View" room at the Sofitel Le Sphinx means very noisy as you are placed right beside a very major roundabout.  Yes we had a view but changed after the firts night as we couldn't sleep due to the noise.  Sofitel kindly organised the swap, and as they didnt' have any spare studios we got a free upgrade to a suite which was really good of them.  After the swap we enjoyed our stay there.

I would suggest mentioning to anyone going to Hurghada that it is not a common English destination, the few English people we did meet on excursions also mentioned they saw very few other people.

Other than that it was perfect.  The cruise was by far the highlight, the staff on the Esadora II were great and our guide Ashraf was excellent apart from being a little shy, but that made it more fun to tease him.

Many thanks,

Grant & Claire Young

Dear Mrs. Maddocks,

My wife and I would like to thank you and your husband for your help arranging our truly memorable Nile Cruise.

As your husband told me on the telephone, our lower-deck cabin would prove to be fine and paying more for a higher deck would be a waste of money.

We had a good mix of people on the Fleurette who seemd to enjoy themselves as much as us.  You will know how good the food is and what a pleasure the staff are.

Yours sincerely,

Hi Colin,

Trip to Cairo and Royal Viking Nile Cruise

Thanks for the card asking about how Shelagh and I found the trip to Egypt which you arranged for us.  Sorry for the delay in replying but the day after I got back, I had to go to the frozen north of Norway which was a bit of a shock to my system after the heat of Luxor

So to our thoughts after the event:-

The tickets arrived from you in good time and with complete detail.

Check in and the flight was good although I have had better airline food.

We were quickly met at the airport in Cairo although it was midnight and the rep made the passage through visas and immigration painless.

The trip to the Sofitel Sphinx was good but the rep spoilt it for himself by putting us under pressure all the way to sign up at 1am for trips around Cairo.  The net result of this was that we booked nothing with him and were easily and more cheaply able to organise trips for ourselves.

The hotel and its restaurant were very good and the whole of Cairo we found completely fascinating and spend hours just standing and looking in amazement, as it is like nothing I have ever seen in world.  Dirty, dreadful but fascinating

The organisation of the pick up and flight to Luxor and on to the ship was flawless.

The ship and crew were perfect and the food good from a spotless galley.

All trips both within the package and as extras were good and the cruise excellent

Entertainment, although not something in which I would normally partake was good.

Pick up and return to Heathrow was once again flawless.

From the above you can see that we thought the whole thing was great!!

Thank you very much for setting it up for us and should we decide to do something organised rather than freelance in the future, you will be our first port of call

Well done and many thanks.

George Plant and Shelagh Biddlestone.

Dear Barbara

Having just returned from the 1 week Nile Cruise and visit to Cairo I must tell you how much we enjoyed the whole experience.

The organisation of transfers, welcome meetings, visits to temples, flights to Cairo and return were all managed with skill, humour and care.

We stayed on Royal Viking and were most impressed with the standard of food, cleanliness and the skilled crew on the boat. Never having done anything quite like this before, (our holidays had just involved the two of us) we were somewhat anxious about being in a group with organised activities. However we soon changed our mind and were so pleased to have had such knowledgeable guides when visiting these most amazing temples and tombs. Without them we would not have found out so much about the Ancient Egyptians.

It was certainly an action packed 4 days whilst on the cruise. This was necessary to fit all the visits into such a short space of time. The times we were on board during sailing times were spent watching the Nile drift slowly past. From the comfort of the sun deck life was peaceful . Once docked and surrounded by the many other boats we still found it a fascinating experience and part of the whole.

There were optional extra tours but we didn't do any as we preferred a little more free time on our own. This gave us the chance to wander the market streets in Aswan, something I can highly recommend. The mint tea at a little cafe was wonderful.  Shopkeepers, when treated with a little humour, were great fun to haggle with over the price of spices, teas and  jewellery

The four days went by in a flash and soon it was time for the flight to Cairo. It was great being Business class even for such a short trip so thank you for that little extra touch.

We were met and transfered via the Sphinx Sound and Light show.  For such a world famous venue  we, and others, were very disappointed with the amateurish display which fell way behind other internationally renowned performances  we have seen. The only complaint of the holiday.

We were then taken on to our hotel, The Pyramids Park. This was a large resort hotel which, although a contrast to the peace and tranquility of the boat was nevertheless  a great place to spend the few days in Cairo.

Cairo was hectic. We decided to take the 2 tours that were on offer. One day was spent out at the Pyrammids and the other in the Cairo Museum, mosques and churches. This gave us a brief glimpse into Cairo life and made us think we wouild like to return with more time to just wander and breathe in the atmosphere.

Many thanks for your personal touch in advising us when making the booking and for the little card waiting for us on our return. Little things make all the difference.

With best wishes

Dear Barbara,

Further to our telephone conversation yesterday I promised to write to express our great pleasure and satisfaction with the arrangements for our trip to Egypt recently completed.

We had a truly wonderful and memorable time.  The reps were friendly and efficient and nothing was too much trouble even when we wanted to do something off schedule.  The Egyptologists were fantastic - not only hugely informative but their enthusiasm for their subject was infectious and I am now looking for an evening class in Egyptology!

The Royal Viking boat was beautiful and we were delighted with everything - our cabin (big!), the food (delicious and plentiful!) the marvellous staff and the little extra touches like the artistic towel arrangements - different each evening!

The hotel in Cairo was perhaps the only (very slight) disappointment mainly owing to the food and service in the dining room.  It was billed as 5 star but we felt 3-4 star would be more accurate.  Having said that, the room was comfortable and the swimming pool and gym facilities were good.  It certainly didn't spoil our holiday but I expect you want all the feedback even the less positive bits.

Richard and I would like to thank you for all your hard work to make our time in Egypt magical and I for one would certainly return to Egypt again and would recommend you to anyone who wanted a trouble-free and memorable holiday.

All good wishes,
Mary Yeomans

Have just returned from the Nile Cruise booked at short notice with you and received your welcome home card.  Had a very, very good time there, most went like clockwork and made up for our Mexico/Wedding Trip that was cancelled.

Always looking for deals and trips to get away but have got most of the rest of this year covered.  Not really beach people so always looking for active holidays, see as much as you can in the shortest time possible, culture tours, so if you come across anything that you think may be of interest to us please feel free to email us with the setails.

Thanks very much again for your help at such short notice and best wishes.

Hello Barbara,

Just wanted to send you a quick message.

We have had the best holiday ever!!

My friend Edith and I had waited 23 years to go to Egypt and it was everything we had dreamed of and more.  We honestly cant' believe how much we packed into our ten days.  The hotel in Cairo was great and how close to the Pyramids!!  We have spent 10 days saying, "Oh my God" and "Wow!!".

The ship was brill, lovely cabin, great staff.  Peter was really nice and so helpful and our guide in Cairo, Sally, was great.  How much info can one person carry around in their heads?  And our guide on the ship, Charley, well what can you say?  He was amazing, a fountain of knowledge and handsome as well!

We did two extra things, hot air ballooning, that was WOW truly amazing, drifting over the Valley Of The Kings at 3000 ft as the sun came up over the Nile, oh my God, did I really do that?  That was a once in a lifetime experience that we will never forget.

Then of course Abu Simbel.  What can you say about that?  Unbelievable.

We were impressed from the beginning of the holiday until the end by the well oiled, well timed organisation.  We were met at the airport when we landed and taken to the hotel, again met by our guides when and where they said, our coaches were always on time, the tours on time, taken back to the airport on time, everything was really well organised.

I dont' know if we will ever have the chance to return to Egypt, but never say never.  But if we do we have already said that we would book through you again, no doubt.

Thank you so much for the help you gave us for our holiday of a lifetime that was way more than we could ever have hoped for.

Thanks,

Lynne & Edith

Hello Barbara,

Just to say thank you for the welcome card you sent me and to say what a wonderful, hectic at times, holiday I had.

Though some people had tummy upsets, I was fine throughout the week.  Everything you said it would be, it was.  The wine, the excursions, the food on the boat, the weather, the local people, and not forgetting our representative Ahman.  He was always there for us, polite, helpful, informative and knowledgeable on Ancient Egyptian civilisation.

The Nile is a beautiful part of Egypt.  In fact, it is the life source of Egypt.

I would most certainly travel with you again.  Egypt was an education and a wonderful life experience, and I have many, many photographs to remin me.

If you pushed me very hard to say something negative, well, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BAD I could say to disappoint you.

Very best wishes to you.

Pete Fegredo.

Hi Barbara,

Thanks so much for the anniversary card and welcome home card.

We had a fabulous time.  The boat was exceptional, as was the food and staff.

We were really spoilt because the ship was only a quarter full so we were waited on hand and foot.  We met some great people and the itinerary was just right fo us.  Our tour guide was great too.

Thanks for a memorable holiday.  We have and we will be recommending it.

Hello Barbara,

Just to let you know we had an excellent time on our cruise on the Royal Viking.  We sailed from Luxor to Aswan over a week.

The boat was better than my expectations, beautifully presented, very clean and comfortable.  The food was excellent, the views down the Nile from the cabins when we sailed were very special.

The trips were extremely well organised with comfortable, air-conditioned coaches with toilets.

Our Egyptologist, Moshen, was again excellent, very informative and with a good sense of humour.

We had never been on a cruise before, didnt' think it would be our bag, but we are converted.

Many thanks for your recommendation.

Dear Barbara,

I wanted to thank you for all your help and advice in booking our recent 3 centre holiday to Egypt. Having established the type of cruise, hotel and resort we liked you quickly made specific recommendations.

Your choice was spot on and surpassed our expectations.  the quality of accommodation and facilities on the Royal Viking defintely deserved it's category of 5 Star Plus and your promise of a double cabin was kept.  The inclusive guided trips were well organised and led by very knowledgable guides.  The choice of the Sofitel Le Sphinx in Cairo was perfect with our balcony view of The Pyramids and the excellent roof top restaurant with a truly special ambience.

As if that was not enough our 4 nights at The Movenpick Resort and Spa in El Gouna was fantastic.  It was a beautiful resort with wonderful facailities.  We tried the range of restaurants and were delighted with them all.

We loved it so much that we did not want to leave and are hoping to visit there again in the near future!!

Thanks again,

Elizabeth and Brian

Jaz Royale Nile Cruise and El Gouna

My husband and I have just returned from a week on the Jaz Royale on the River Nile, followed by a week at the Movenick Resort and Spa El Gouna.

This was the best holiday we have had, and we have had some great holidays in many countries.

The Jaz Royale is a great experience, not only in the boat itself, but the excursions taken.   We found the staff on the boat to be very attentive without being overbearing, and extremely polite and friendly.    Nothing was too much trouble for them.   The food was very good and also well varied.   We were also impressed by the cleanliness and hygiene standards on board.    We would say that this boat is probably best for the more mature person, if you want peace and quiet while sailing the Nile, this is the one for you.

One thing which is unavoidable is the 'stacking' of boats when berthed.   The Jaz Royale, when in a 'stack', was always on either the river side or the land side , never in the middle, which is far better, as the engines of the boats are constantly running to enable the air conditioning etc. to be maintained, and sometimes the fumes can be overpowering on some boats.

A further point to make is that the Jaz Royale always berthed very centrally, some boats seemed to be a long way from the main area, e.g. at Kom Ombo we berthed right by the temple, and in Luxor, opposite the Winter Palace Hotel.

We then drove across the desert, to El Gouna.   Originally we considered Hurghada, and having driven through it to drop off other holidaymakers staying there, we were so glad to have chosen El Gouna.

It is a lovely resort, though only 10 years old, so don't expect any history.   The Movenpick hotel is excellent, very large, but in groups of small buildings.   It is beautifully planted and spotlessly clean.   Again very attentive staff, but be prepared to walk - from our room it took about five minutes to walk to the restaurant in which we took breakfast, albeit a very pleasant walk.  The only small complaint we would have of this hotel, is that the signing and lighting could be improved along the pathways at night.   It took us nearly the whole week to find the way to the italian restaurant, without doubling back, as we kept taking the wrong path, but a minor complaint!   There is a shuttle bus and shuttle boat which for Eᆪ20 (about ᆪ2.30) you can buy a ticket valid for 5 days, and use as many times as you like to various places around the resort.

In all we would highly recommend this holiday, it is definitely worth 5 stars.

Royal Viking - October 2009

Barbara,

This is to say that our Nile cruise on the Royal Viking was a superb, high quality experience.  The facilities and food on the boat were excellent whilst the service provided by the staff was of the highest quality and incredibly friendly.

On the various visits to the historical sites the ability of the Egyptologist to pass on the relevant history was outstanding, to say nothing of the transfer services that were provided by the staff.

When we flew up to Cairo the representatives were again there to "meet and greet" us from the airport arrival to departure, plus the escorted tours of the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum that we had booked.  The down-town dinner in Cairo on our final night was a perfect finish to our holiday.

The Sofitel Le Sphinx Hotel was good value although the "Pyramids View" from our balcony was largely obscured by the palm trees around the pool area but that wasn't' important as a fuller view could be easily obtained by walking down the corridor to the open part.

Great value for money and thoroughly recommended for anyone who wants to get an insight into the amazing history and culture of this country.  We learnt a great deal.

Many thanks and best wishes.

MS Stephanie

Hello Barbara and Colin,

I am pleased to say that we have had our experience through your company and have not stopped talking about it.

We flew from Heathrow, via Cairo, to Luxor on the 28th of September to join the MS Stephanie.

We had a marvellous experience and thoroughly enjoyed out time afloat and with our guides, Osama, Haggy and Hussein.

To highlight the holiday we transferred from Luxor to Cairo and stayed at The Mena House Oberoi Hotel.

AMAZING!  Best described as "tranquility amid chaos".

Until last year I had been employed in the travel industry for over 30 years and was very pleased with this holiday.

Grand Preziosa February 2010

Wow!

We booked this holiday with you having had to cancel the previous week booked with another company due to family illnes but what a difference it made.

Your professionalism, advice and information, together with the efforts you made on our behalf to secure a quiet upper deck cabin all suceeded in making this a superb holiday for us.

The service provided by all the staff on the MS Grand Preziosa was of the highest quality.  Food was excellent and whilst the boat was older than some in the Grand Cruises group, the staff and their whole attitude to ensuring our satisfaction was without doubt first class and excellent value for money.

Thank you for what turned out to be one of our very best holidays yet!

Radamis II and Cairo Trip
December 2

We had a great time in Egypt.  It is a fascinating place and all that is said about the amazing sights is true!  Our complicated itinerary worked remarkably smoothly - we heard stories of problems.  Monarch was good.  The Radimus II was excellent.  Very clean and tidy and we got our upper deck cabin and (they said) an upgrade to a bigger cabin though they all looked nice.  The staff were all very motivated, helpful and friendly and they had excellent chefs.  Food was great and I ate everything and was fine.  They put on a really great New Year's Eve party and made a huge effort.  Again we heard others talk of awful boats when we were back at the airport.

Our guide on the cruise was quite good, he usually worked for one of the UK specialist tour companies.  He was a bit brief compared with some we listened in on but overall a nice guy.  The big advantage of a ship versus a more romantic felucca or dahabiyya is the fantastic views from the top deck as you go along the river.  I suppose as it was not a complete package our tour had an amazing mix of people: one New Zealand and one Japanese couple from London, American family, South African couple, Indian family.  So that was a bonus.  We had to do our own thing the last Monday (when we had the day to ourselves in Luxor) and that worked fine.  We left our luggage at the Luxor train station which is a good travel tip for anyone doing the same as us - as there is nothing at the airport.  The day we left the boat we could leave our luggage there all day as we did not leave till 10pm but the ship was there overnight.

As we arrived so late in Cairo we decided to sleep in and take a taxi in to do the museum on our own.  It was nice to be able to potter about the museum rather than being whisked around from exhibit to exhibit by a guide.  We also went at lunchtime which was a nice quiet time to see the Tutankhamun section which of course is amazing.  I dont' think the new museum will be have such a nice old-fashioned atmosphere as the existing one though no doubt it will be better for the exhibits.  We hired a car + guide in Cairo - the same company that did the pick up - to do the Pyramids and Memphis (that was a better price locally than we expected from your info) and that worked really well.  The lunch was delicious local food - it was out near the Memphis/Saqqara area and although much frequented by big groups was excellent.

I think the only thing we did not like is the constant "baksheesh" and the hassle in the markets.  Mostly it was friendly hassle but we came across one very aggressive guy outside the Le Merdien Hotel in Giza which was not very pleasant.

So everything was great!  Many thanks for putting the itinerary together for us.

MS Monica

Thanks for the "Welcome Home" card we received today.  Yes we had a great time.  We took loads of photos and video but nothing captures the experience.

I dont' know how one does that: perhaps repeat it all again!

I am amazed at how critical people can be.  If I had read reviews about the MS Monica before we went out there I would have been extremely dubious about going.  I think some English people are just professional complainers.

I couldnt' agree with a lot of what I read subsequent to the trip.

I have been to English hotels which didnt' meet the Monica's standards!

Obviously the conditions people live in (we werent' keen on the Luxor horse and carriage trip) are somewhat basic to say the least which should discourage people from complaining about minor things on the cruise.

We valued your recommendations and suggestions.

One disappointment though; we bought an alabaster vase at the "guranteed" factory outlet, probably at an inflated price, only to find on our return it had a small hole in the side of it.  I wonder whether the item was swapped in a moment we werent' paying attention.  But that we shall have to put down to experience.

Otherwise we really enjoyed the cruise and the excursions.

Royal Viking
March 2010

Hi,

Sorry not to have contacted you sooner but we have had a lot to catch up with since arriving home late Monday night.

The holiday was excellent, starting with the service from yourself.  Everything you told us was accurate.  I would recommend the ship to anyone.

The cabin was spacious and comfortable.  The crew were helpful and friendly and the food was very good.  Attention to hygene was thorough and we did not suffer from any stomach complaints.

The tours were excellent.  We have seen pictures of the various sites but to see them in real life is something else!  The guides were knowledgable and helpful.  It was also great to relax on the deck in the warm sunshine and watch the banks of the Nile.

The whole holiday was very well organised and we didnt' have to worry about a thing.  The only thing that could be improved was larger seats on the Monarch flight.
